These easy to make sweet and salty HALLOWEEN PRETZELS are ones you are going to make every Halloween or even at any special gathering or get together just for the fun of it.

Crispy bites of pretzel snacks coated in your favorite flavor of chocolate and dotted with those eerie, goofy, almost scary yet adorable sugar candy eyes were an absolute hit at one of our Halloween parties held at my son’s house in San Diego a couple of years ago!

To add to that, I had made those gorgeous Halloween cigars; again, pretzel sticks coated in white chocolate and granulated colored sugar for that perfect cigar/cigarette for everyone to have a blast with without the fear of ingesting tobacoo!

Some guests (who had come in their Halloween costumes) even posed for some pictures with that dangling from their pouted lips, smiling sheepishly!

Don’t they look adorable, such fun and easily doable for anyone?

I am sure, with a little help from adults, even kids can make these and have fun along the way.

HALLOWEEN SNACKS

Halloween is that time of the year (October 31), especially in places like US and many other countries when everyone celebrates remembering the dead and departed wearing ghoulish costumes, having fun trick or treating (especially fun for kids), having parties etc.

Why, now this is celebrated even in other parts of the world just for the fun of it!

You can read more about this unique tradition online in various sites.

My younger son and his wife have made it a tradition to host Halloween parties at their home in San Diego every year, decorating beautifully with a theme chosen (like Harry Potter in 2022, Dragon in 2023 and Underwater in 2024 this year) and inviting all their friends with all of them wearing unique costumes.

There are lots of games, lots of food and basically a fun time sharing some good times chatting,  playing games and thoroughly enjoying the mood of the day/night!

I was lucky enough to attend a couple of these with my son and daughter-in-law, helping them set up the scenes, cook unique Halloween themed food and of course enjoying a good time with all the lovely people attending it.

All their friends eagerly look forward to having a good time at that party.

As far as food goes, we try and make it adhering to the Halloween theme or sometimes get some from outside. You can catch a glimpse of some here.

But my favorite (as it is super easy to make and definitely perfect for the theme); are these chocolate covered pretzel bites, be it the cute pretzel shaped ones or the cigar ones.

Now, to the recipe:

HALLOWEEN PRETZELS

Basic ingredients you will need are:

  • Crispy Pretzel snacks
  • Pretzel sticks
  • White chocolate (bars or chocolate chips)
  • Dark and/or milk chocolate (again bars or chips)
  • Colored sugar crystals (black, white plain and green)
  • Candied eyeballs, eyes

All these are available online.

Crispy, buttery pretzel snacks are readily available in grocery stores and even online.

So, at one of those Halloween parties (in 2022), I decided to add to the fun of making everything spooky and yet delicious by making these easy to make Halloween pretzel snacks using regular pretzel sticks.

For the ghoulish looking pretzel snack, I decided to dip them in white, dark and milk chocolate and then dotted each with those cute, ghoulish candy eyes.

Don’t they looks eerily cute!

For the cigars, I just dipped half of the pretzel sticks in melted white chocolate and dipped the ends in black colored sugar crystals and red colored sugar crystals on the edges for that lit up cigarette look! That is it!

Aren’t they super easy to make and so, so good to look?

HOW TO MAKE HALLOWEEN PRETZELS (Details in Recipe Card Below)

FOR THE PRETZEL MONSTERS:

Gather the ingredients – pretzels, white, dark and milk chocolate, candy eyeballs.

pretzel monsters ingredients

Melt the chocolate (in separate bowls) in microwave or in a double boiler until totally melted and flowy.

Dip each pretzel in melted chocolate to coat fully.

Place on parchment paper lined baking sheet gently.

Before the chocolate sets, place 2 candy eyeballs on the pretzel to represent the eyes and let cool completely. It is easier to do this for 5-6 pretzels at a time before the chocolate sets and then continue with the others.

(Actually, halfway, I ran out of those candy eyes so decided to wing it by placing a large white chocolate chip in the 2 holes of the pretzels and then piping melted chocolate dots on the chocolate covered pretzels using a piping bag or even a Ziploc bag with the end cut to represent the eyes). Jugaad as they say in India or a hack!

Gently remove from parchment paper when completely cooled and set.

FOR THE PRETZLE CIGARS:

Gather the ingredients.

Pretzel cigar ingredients

Melt white chocolate in microwave or double boiler.

Dip half the pretzel stick in melted white chocolate.

When the chocolate is still wet, dip the edges in a mixture of white and black crystal sugar up to ½ an inch and gently again in red colored sugar crystals at just the ends to make those fiery red cigar ends!

Place on parchment lined sheet and let set.

When both are totally set, remove from parchment paper and serve at parties or get togethers, especially at Halloween!

Not only they are cute to look at, they taste amazing too; crispy, salty on the inside and sweet, chocolaty on the outside.

Do try and you will love them too!
