Mango Paletas/Frozen Mexican Mango Popsicles with Chili and Lemon

Back after a long vacation break with another mango treat and more interesting and fun recipes!! I have still a lot of travelling to do, but I could not stay away from my passion for too long.  So, I will be posting my culinary creations off and on for the next few weeks.

Mango paletas are unique Mexican frozen fresh fruit ice pop treats with a blend of mango and sugar syrup with lemon juice and chili powder. Studded with tropical chunks of mango and ruby red pearls of pomegranate in every bite with a kick of heat, I cannot think of anything healthier, sweeter, cooler, creamier (and spicier!) to enjoy on these hot summer days.

I am sure everyone keeps looking around for icy cool treats to cool off with the sun breathing its hot heat on us. Along with a variety of ice creams like strawberry ice cream, mocha almond fudge ice cream etc, fresh fruits and juices, ice pops or popsicles are the quickest way to cool off. If they have fresh and healthy fruits in them, every bite becomes a guilty free treat!

Every summer, with the onslaught of mango season, we have always enjoyed raw mangoes chunks dipped in a mixture of chili powder and salt. Mango Paletas are the fruity version but in a frozen avatar!

Mango popsicles are the quintessential simple ice pops everyone makes. Mexican paletas raises the spice level of a traditional ice pop a few notches. Although I was wary of adding chili powder to ice pops, one bite of these frozen fruity pops and I was tickled by its taste!

A little cayenne or chili powder in these frozen mango treats, not only cools you off, but once you have relished a bite, the spiciness of the chili powder hits you in a surprising but pleasant way. Addition of chunks of frozen mango gives a fruity texture along with ruby red pearls of pomegranate! Addition of mangoes and pomegranate is totally optional. You can add other fruits too or choose to not add any cut fruits.

Addition of lime juice balances the flavor perfectly to make a sweet, sour and spicy frozen dessert! If you do not have readily made sugar syrup, just add plain sugar according to your taste (depending upon the sweetness of the mango too).

I am sure, once you take a bite of these unique Mexican treats, you will be tempted to add chili powder to every ice pop you make! These make about 4 popsicles, but it depends upon the size of your molds.

So, what are you waiting for? Make these creamy, healthy and spicy frozen mango paletas before the mangoes are all gone!

Thanks so much Rosy 🙂 Looking forward to your feedback! You can totally omit the pomegranate; I have just added it for color and a different texture and flavor!

Tempting paletas, love adding a bit of chilli to them. Like your idea of adding fruit bits in it.
